The problem
In a classroom with mainly hard, smooth surfaces (ceiling, walls, floor), sound waves keep reflecting, so conversations, children playing and teachers remain audible for longer and the reverberation time increases. Teachers have to put more effort into their voices, and children find it harder to understand speech clearly. This has a direct impact on concentration, learning outcomes and overall comfort in the classroom.
