Installing your XL panels yourself

In short. Prefer to install the panels yourself? With these instructions you can hang an XL panel in about fifteen minutes, on the ceiling or on the wall. The fixings come with your order: magnets for the ceiling, a French cleat for the wall.

What do you need?

  • A drill with a bit and wall plugs suited to your wall or ceiling
  • A screwdriver or cordless drill
  • A tape measure, pencil and spirit level
  • For the ceiling: a sturdy ladder and preferably a second person

Good to know

  • Every panel has a wooden frame inside. Always screw into that frame, never into the fabric or the wool.
  • Not sure about the surface (plasterboard, suspended ceiling, concrete)? Choose plugs made for that material or just ask us.
  • Would you rather we did it? Installation by our own team is always an option.

1. Ceiling: with magnets

  1. Screw the four magnets onto the back of the panel, about 5 cm from the edge, into the wooden frame. Tighten them, but not too hard.
  2. Measure the distance between the magnets and mark those four points on the ceiling.
  3. Drill the four holes, insert wall plugs and screw the metal washers in place.
  4. Lift the panel, preferably with two people, and let the magnets click onto the washers.
  5. Want to remove the panel? Slide it sideways off the magnets rather than pulling it straight down.

2. Wall, vertical: with a French cleat

  1. Locate the wooden frame on the back of the panel. Screw the first part of the French cleat horizontally onto it, with the bevelled edge facing down.
  2. At the bottom of the frame, drive in two screws so they stick out 1.5 cm. They keep the panel at the same distance from the wall as the cleat, so it hangs nice and flat.
  3. Mark the centre of where the panel will go on the wall. Hold the second part of the cleat level, mark the holes, then drill, plug and screw it in place, with the bevelled edge facing up.
  4. Hang the panel on the cleat. The cleat sits completely behind the panel and is not visible.

3. Wall, horizontal: with a French cleat

  1. Proceed as for vertical mounting, but this time screw the cleat in the middle of the long side, 10 cm from the top edge.
  2. Screw into the wooden frame and choose new screw points: do not use the holes already pre-drilled for vertical mounting.
  3. Again, drive in two screws at the bottom so they stick out 1.5 cm.
  4. Mark the centre on the wall, screw the second part of the cleat in place level with the bevelled edge facing up, and hang the panel centred.
